Wanderlust

She was so young and pretty

Didn't have much to her name

Lived in a little city

With one light and two lanes

Picked up a smoking habit

In her senior year of school

Said she hated family

'Cause her friends said it was cool

Brave and quick witted

Empty pockets she did have

Started workin' at the bar

Just waitin' on time to pass

All she ever wanted

Was just to be free

But the furthest she'd ever been

Was Memphis Tennessee

And I never knew

If she ever got to leave

That little town

In Wyoming

But I always figured

She'd damn sure try

The thought of staying

Always made her cry

You could see it in her eyes

A thirst to leave that town

The tattoo on her forearm

Had it all written down

Big bold letters

And dark black ink

The word Wanderlust

Just as plain as you could see

A few years later

I heard talk from that town

How that pretty girl

Was still hanging around

Said she hadn't changed

Not much at all

Still had them dreams

So big and so tall

Said she was mean

And they said she was sharp

Told me how she'd come to own

That ol' worn out bar

Told everyone

Who came ever came through

How she was leaving

And she swore that it was true

She never left

She stayed in that place

Wishing she'd of gone

Every single day

Planning trips

Every damn night

Swearing she'd leave

When the time was right

You could see it in her eyes
