I was standing in the kitchen Doing the dishes we left from the night before Then she walked in with a gap toothed grin, roaring like a dinosaur I've spent my whole life with one foot out of the door It finally took putting down what I was working on To see what I was working for It's the little things that get me through to tomorrow It's the little things that keep my in the fight It's coffee in the morning It's singing her to sleep each night It's the little things that let me know everything's gonna be alright I was patiently waiting, anticipating to get back out on the road Trying to be smart and play my part, shoulder my share of the load I used to be a singer with a family back home Now I'm just a father and a husband, Who knows his way around a microphone Last year nearly broke us Time slipped by like a ghost But it allowed me to focus on the things that matter most
