Artist Biography
Kurt Darren is known as the prince of South African pop for several reasons. Not only does he have a natural singing talent that has been refined to perfection over several decades as a performer, but this hard-working, multilingual artist (he sings in Afrikaans and English) also knows how to write both catchy dance treffers, as well as heartfelt ballads that stir up all the right emotions. Through interactive live performances, regular television and media appearances and charity work as well as a consistent stream of sold-out concerts and number one singles, he’s managed to stay lodged firmly in the hearts of South Africans across all spheres. Not surprising, then, that he was the headline Afrikaans artist at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday concert in London in 2008. With a massive and growing list of greatest hits under his belt—“Meisie Meisie”, “Kaptein”, “Staan Op!”, “Alleen Leen Leen” and “Hemel op Tafelberg” spring to mind—there’s only one thing left to say to this legend: respect!
